The skin is amazing! It is the largest organ you have to protect your body against disease and infection.

Skin helps the body get rid of water, salt and other substances as well. Your skin also helps to control your body temperature and protects all of your other organs from getting injured.

The problem with skin is that it can become infected. Many teens develop acne which can be very emotionally upsetting. Another problem with skin is that it is also a place where cancer can develop.

It is very important for you to know that anyone, including teens, can get skin cancer. It doesn’t matter what color your skin is, even if is dark! Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in the United States.

You’d think that given all that skin does to help people, and the fact that skin cancer, infections and other problems can develop, they would take better care of their skin. Unfortunately most people don’t protect their skin.

This is the reason that there is a National Healthy Skin Month, to prevent people from dying of skin cancer and to help them understand how important skin is, how it should be taken care of, and what should be done to avoid seriously damaging the skin.
